In 2017, AusAir partnered with The University of Sydney to design the best high-tech filtration mask on the market, the result was a mask unlike any other. The AirFlex was designed to handle high flow rate capacity like an N95 mask but also providing the aesthetic for the modern cityscapes.
It was about equipping the urban explorer with something previously unavailable- robust filtration built inside a fashion accessory.
Optimised for durability and comfort, the washable AirFlex skin is built using AusAir’s in-house composite material to enhance the breathing experience and offer timeless style. The simple switch and click of AusAir’s filter locks result in effortless replacements of the AirFlex filters. Intentional, thoughtful design for your protection.
With comprehensive filtration certified by FDA registered and ISO 17025 accredited Nelson Labs, the leading global provider of microbiological laboratory testing for MedTech and pharmaceutical companies.
The Particle Filtration Efficiency (PFE) test determines how much protection a filter offers against airborne contaminants, by administering small particulate matter to the filtration media at a constant flow rate. The tests were conducted using 0.1micron (μm) sized particles. For reference a human hair is around 70μm in diameter and coccus bacteria are around 2μm.The filter media achieved a PFE of >99%.
The Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE) test determines how much protection a filter offers against bacteria, by administering the challenge organism Staphylococcus aureus to the filtration media at a constant flow rate. The filter media achieved a BFE of >99%.
Similarly, the Viral Filtration Efficiency (VFE) test determines how much protection a filter offers against viruses, by administering the challenge organism bacteriophage phiX174 to the filtration media at a constant flow rate. The filter media achieved a VFE of >99%.
Exhalation valves are a key component of the AirFlex design. Built from stainless steel rather than plastic for longevity and timeless aesthetic they work as humidity control and moisture release. When activated, the AirFlex valves operate as a one-way breathing device. Intentionally designed so that inhaled air can only enter through the filtration media, removing the finest contaminants and allowing the wearer to breathe with confidence. To protect against moisture build up and regulate humidity, exhaled air is expelled through the valves, mitigating breathing discomfort and allowing for all day comfort.
In a crowded place? Optionally engage full two-way filtration with AusAir’s block-out technology, protecting the wearer and those around them in any situation. By deactivating the valves, exhaled air is forced through all five layers of filtration. Now, not only does this protect the wearer, it also acts as an adaptive filtration system, keeping others safe too.
Each face is unique. With multiple sizing options for both the filters and the washable composite outer skin, the AirFlex has everyone covered. Through extensive data collection AusAir has optimised the AirFlex sizing options to best accommodate a broad range of wearers, crafting the perfect ear loop lengths and contour shaping capabilities. With the right size, air leakage is minimised and comfort optimised.
Every Airflex mask features adjustable cushioned ear loops so you can get the perfect fit without compromising on comfort. The simple slide and lock mechanism allows adjustment on the go to give your ears a well earned break.
A firm yet flexible broad span nose wire and memory nose foam installed on each filter contours around the wearer's face to eliminate leakage, help create that effective seal and reduces the fogging of glasses.
AusAir have developed three unique scents, each with additional botanical benefits and soothing aromas. Sourced from the iconic lavender fields of Tasmania, a southern Australian island known for its wilderness and natural beauty, the AirFlex Tasmanian Lavender filter has a subtle and calming aroma. Sustainably harvested from farms in New South Wales, the sweet earthy and citrus tones of Coastal Tea Tree filter helps to reduce stress and improve respiratory function. Fresh and uplifting, the subtle scent of the eucalyptus citriodora filter, sourced from farms in New South Wales acts as a mood brightener and invigorate senses.
Each filter provides up to 28 days of effective filtration depending on use. Reducing the reliance on single use, disposable masks and leaving a significantly lighter footprint on the environment.
The bag is embedded with antibacterial copper technology, a naturally occurring mineral which guards against deterioration from microorganisms and inhibits the growth of bacterial odours. Tested by Microchem Laboratory in the United States, the copper filtration layer achieved >99.9% reduction of bacteriophage in antibacterial activity and efficacy testing.
